How Detour makes money.
Straight answer: some of the links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and book something, Detour can earn a small commission from the airline, ticket seller or hotel. It costs you nothing extra. You pay exactly what you'd pay going there directly.
How it works.
Commission never picks the deal.
We find trips first, by checking real prices. Whether a link happens to be affiliate has no bearing on whether a trip makes the list or how high it ranks. Plenty of what we cover isn't affiliate at all.
You pay the same either way.
Affiliate pricing works on the seller's side, not yours. Clicking our link instead of going direct doesn't change your price by a penny.
Every deal is independently selected.
Every trip on Detour is checked by hand against the actual ticket, flight and accommodation cost. If the numbers don't stack up, it doesn't go on the site, commission or not.
Why we do it.
Running Detour isn't free. Data, hosting, and the time it takes to check every price by hand all cost money. Affiliate commission is how the site pays for itself without a paywall or ads plastered over the trips. It's the same model most independent travel and deal sites run on.
